Tactile Fields
2019–2020; 2023–ongoing · photography

Tactile Fields began as an investigation of touch and the ways it is socially organised, learned and repeated. My starting point included research into intimate gestures between couples as well as more codified forms of contact, such as professional cuddling.

In the photographs, bodies are placed beneath translucent fabric that both separates and connects them. The textile records pressure, weight, proximity and movement, making touch visible without fully revealing the bodies involved. Hands, limbs and folds overlap until it becomes difficult to determine where one body ends and another begins, or who is touching and who is being touched.

I am interested in touch as a form of bodily knowledge that photography can register but never completely reproduce. Through softness, obscured contours and the physical surface of the print, the body becomes less a portrait than a field of contact—a place where intimacy, distance and perception are continually negotiated.

The project has been exhibited at Nordkapp Museum in Honningsvåg.
